Thinline Acoustic Guitar Made from an Old Piano Pt 2 - The Reveal
Hey tim ,great job ! I'm looking to do this with a 50 special. Have you a link to buy the swingarm or to buy the plans/drawings for it ?
Adam Savage?
I did an entire board Made a band saw type of tool to ride the bench with sanding belts Umbrella ribs to protect frets Came out great But , why do the last frets where there is absolutely no drag on your fingers from the board at all Makes no sense
This week I wanted to try turning old motorcycle helmets into lamps. The unfortunate thing about motorcycle helmets (even very expensive ones) is their impact foam degrades. Most industry standards recommend replacing a helmet after about 5 years of use. My uncle gave me his Shoei Neotec when I started riding, a helmet which I love, but has unfortunately reached the 5 year cut-off so I want to turn it into a unique gift that he can still enjoy.
Definitely interested in something similar but a bit longer in scale--like 32".
It will be a little limited finding strings for it in that scale length but not impossible. You can contact me via newperspectivesmusic.com to discuss making one for you.
Bass VI? When is Bass VII?
Hmmm interesting video , played the drums for many years (started at primary school what you americans call elementary) , good to see stuff being reused but a cheap kit to start with isnt always a bad idea as cheap kits from 50 years ago ect are far superior to anything "emtry level" you can buy today , sadly the one you started with want vintage thats why quality was poor , but it was free! So win win
Great video Tim ! I’m sold I’m just looking for a donor Vespa or a TOMOS moped but only issue I have! It rains a lot in the North of the UK so I will need to keep weather proof whilst I’m using it
I acquired an old Sachs (basically the same as a Tomos) that I plan on converting, too. It looks much easier to do as the swing arm is already good to go for a motorized hub.
That’s a good idea a TOMOS was my first bike / moped
WHY ?
Ride it and you would no longer ask that question :)
Destruction of a classic vehicle what a shame
The headstock is not better than it was that looks butchered.
I agree. I tried something and it did not work :)
@@timsway fair enough. How does the neck feel after thinning it out? What scale length is the neck?
In all honesty I think you are a pretty good player , and I used to have that same line Six amp , and they actually have some great tones , but not so great in reliability, Great comparison, thank you !
Such a cool fun instrument! Excellent to see the development.
I use a bass vi with humbuckers for everything from doom metal in DADGAD with a tri-amp multi-fuzz rig to jazz combo gigs. They’re far more versatile than most folks give them credit for.
🔥🔥🔥Tim is always ahead of the curve. Cool stuff. ❤
These guitars have a lot of personality. They kind of remind me of friends.
Sweet design
The n. 8 -that's a very nice instrument! The way you wired the pickups is pretty brilliant.
I can’t take credit. It was all the client’s idea!
Nice design 👍
So happy you included the flourishes from the original well. It really pulls it all together by including those bits of the woods history in a new life.
This rocks. Now I want a bass VI.
just so happens I have one for sale :)
@@timsway Im fiscally and geologically (which is fiscally with extra steps) barred from getting that one from you, not to mention I'd probably have a whole bunch of weird specs to request... My ideal bass VI would be one weird instrument! So, in the meantime I've been enjoying your journey into more and more refined and personal takes on electric instrument - You've come a long way Tim, keep up the good work!
can you make one with a Floyd rose?
I'm not sure if the floyd could hold such large strings - or the amount of tension the instrument is under , even with all the springs in. One would need to experiment.
@timsway thanks for responding I love your videos man I would love to see a bass 6 with a Floyd rose imagine the kinds of experimental music you could make with that
I have a Yamaha Drop6 baritone with a locking trem and it rocks! I use it mostly like you would use a Bigsby, but the range and stability are quite a bit better.
Sounds slightly out of tune…
It was! I had to move the bridge back a little bit to better intonate it.
Terrific work on all those Bases Tim. That 3 pick up Bass is over the top awesome! Well done! 👏👏🎸🎸👍👍
I can do without the tremolo
Very nice. I have 2 bass VI’s I built. I need to work with them some more.
Cool to see the evolution of this design, showing the iterations side by side. Much more fun to keep trying new and different things instead of doing the same-old every time. Can't wait to see how you do it next time. Thanks for sharing!
Just finishing off my baritone guitar build, now I wanna build a bass 6 😂. You're an inspiration Tim
Creepy Tim intro! My Mum told me about guitar makers like you...
Its hard for me to get into the "bass" frame of mind when I'm playing what feels like a guitar. They are kind fun to use as a really "deep" guitar though.
Yea, I think they're more "guitars" or "for guitarists" than extended range basses for bassists.
Tim have you seen those odd circular pickups that are for each individual bass string (4 strings)? Would love to see your take on them!!
Not sure I know which specific ones you're talking about (NS designs) but I'm familiar with the concept and have a experimented with similar things in the past - and plan to again in the future. Specifically for upright bass.
@@timsway I figured out what they're called. They're called ATLANSIA. Very odd but cool pickups. If you do something like that in the future I'd be interested, as they don't currently ship in America!
Cool stuff as always. It's fun to see your transition from a hobbyist to an instrument builder. The use of the machines to make the work less cumbersome reminds me of the Peavey T-60/T-40 series of instruments. They were the first to use automation to improve consistency, and reduce labor costs. Those have a great story... although Peavey's story took a dive when Hartley retired.
I can hear the Violent Fems using one!
hey man they look so cool! well done sir!😁
26th subscriber view about to happen... 0:56 I'd name that earliest model "The Flintstone" - 'cause Fred would really ROCK that one. Back in the era of Teisco guitars, local pawn shop/jewelry/novelty shops carried a Japanese-made brand of electric guitar called a St. George. Ever see one of those? The wood with the black pickguard is a good look, IMHO. 6:22. 8th LIKE posted. Some surf tunes in the future of any of those? (that middle pick-up).
not familiar with the "St George" moniker, but there were so many names on those guitars! These instruments can do anything, from surf to high plains :)
@@timsway 3:01 - btw: I'd seen that Lee Sklar uses mandolin frets on his basses, so when I wanted to add frets up to the 9th on my KALA U-Bass, I followed his suggestion and had the luthier do likewise. What was I thinking - that I could play a fretless?! DOH!! Back to BassSIX. (like the play on words: basics).
I always thought they were cool but never played one
The problem is a lot of music shops are out of business now. We used to have Sam Ash and Mars Music. Now we're basically down to Guitar center and whatever tiny mom and pop is still hanging in and the problem with that is you kind of miss out, because guitar center doesn't carry anything that isn't super common and popular.
@@nathanjasper512 oh I've seen them, just haven't played one.
Indeed. I'm not sure if the place for people like me expands or decreases as the music shops shut down and are bought up, but that's why I always say indie builders are not in competition with each other, but together against "the machine".
Thanks 👍🇺🇸
oooooh that pickup. love it.
I’ve never heard of the bass supply company mentioned in this video, but I have heard of LEMUR Music…
Hmmmm no bass guitar pedal offerings?
Great video Tim! I’m a new viewer here and i’m really inspired by your work and i’ve been loving the content you make. Not to over compliment you or anything but you truly deserve more subscribers!👍
thanks man
Social D! 👍👍
Then turn the bong into lamp
Turn the remnants into bong
thats too cool
I've been thinking about trying one of those ZerO Glide nuts. I need to read more about them. I can't find any before/after videos. I love my guitars but depending on the tuning, the open strings can sound unpleasantly different and plastic-y.
Hello Tim. I am having trouble with Google. This is not my address, but Google seems to have forced it on to me. However, I have just posted a detailed comment, requesting if you could supply one of these pickups without the wooden casing. If so, how much. My first post (which seems to have disappeared) explaion that I am modding my Acoustasonic adding a neck pickup, but there's not much space. Cheers, keep up the good worm.
the wood casing is what holds the whole thing together! I'd have to design something from scratch, which would certainly not be cost-effective.
Tim really snapped when he broke that lamp.... Sheeeeeeet
Bass season! ... It's always bass season for me.
As always another awesome build. Always enjoy your videos. 😎👍
Sounds killer Tim!
